Finding a job these days is hard enough. Once you have found one that you like it is always a good idea to practice ways to keep it. With the job market at a low, employers can be real picky. Here are a few tips to help you keep the job you have.
One of the main things that can get you fired, is not being on time. Always be a little early or on time. If you are going to be late, always call and let your supervisor know.
Be ready to work when you get there. Always be well rested. Remember this is your livelihood, you need this job to survive.
Present yourself everyday with appropriate clothing and good hygiene. Your appearance says allot about your attitude and how you feel about yourself and your job. People take bad hygiene as a sign of not caring and laziness. You don’t have to spend a fortune on clothing. Shop at thrift stores, second hand stores and consignment shops. You can find very nice in-expensive work clothes. Plan your work clothes for the whole week. It’s easier and faster that way.
Another big plus in the work place is being flexible. Employers love employees who can stay later or come in early if needed. Always be ready to improve your job skills. Be open to learning new skills. Doing this can open the door to other employment opportunities.
Attitude says it all! Always have a positive and cheerful attitude. Nothing can get you fired quicker than a bad attitude. Keep your problems at home.
Always remember your manners. Remember to say thank you, please and always acknowledge your co-workers with a simple hello and have a nice day when leaving.
Keep in mind it is human nature to get angry. Remember to always keep it under control in the work place. Take a bathroom break if you need some cooling off time. Learn to accept criticism in a good way. Take it as a learning experience.
Try to remember your co-workers and supervisors names. If your new on the job it may take awhile if you have allot of employees. Write down the names and departments of your employees. You must try to get along with your supervisor.
Remember they can make or break you! Understand your supervisors job responsibilities. You must always respect the fact that they are in charge.
Respect will go a long way. Never gossip or say unkind things about co-workers. Wait until you get home and let it out by talking to a family member.
A simple compliment to a co-worker can make their day more pleasant. Recognize a good quality about your co-worker and make their day. Remember attitude, respect and good work ethics are the main ingredients to keeping a job.
That’s it! Hope these tips will help you keep your job and at the same time make it more pleasant 🙂
