Finding a job in the summer can be difficult. For college students, the field is full of people who often aren’t all that interested in hiring anyone like you, let alone you as an individual. Supposedly young people lack the experience and the capacity for commitment that make for a desirable hire.
For those who aren’t college students, the field is hardly any more promising. Summer sees a positive explosion in the amount of people who are looking for jobs, which means that the market grows more competitive.
Luckily, we’re all well aware of the disadvantages of looking for a job in the summer, and we’ve found ways to compensate. That’s where summer job fairs come in.

Reputable Job Fairs
Here in Connecticut, we’re lucky to have several great organizations working to bring us quality job fairs. Job fairs are often for-profit enterprises, and some unscrupulous companies are only concerned with the bottom line, and not with providing a quality product, so to speak. Over the past couple months, I’ve attended several such career fairs with my sister, who’s in the market for a new job. It’s clear to me that many potential employers provide information that’s misleading or downright wrong.
I can personally assure you, however, that the people at CT Job Fairs aren’t like that. Just a few days ago, I attended one of their events in Danbury, and it was one of the best career fairs I’ve ever been to. The next one they’re hosting is in Cromwell on June 17.
Coast to Coast Career Fairs is a larger organization that I can also wholeheartedly recommend. You won’t have to wait very long if you want to attend one of their events-only until June 16, in fact.
The Online Option
Last but certainly not least, I suggest you take a look at online options. ChattyJob is a good place to find these. They’re hosting an online job fair on June 26 at 1:00, so you can talk to recruiters from the privacy of your own home.
At this time of year, the most important thing to remember about the job search is that sometimes you have to be creative. If you keep an open mind and are persistent, you’re bound to come across some valuable opportunities, but patience is required. Good luck!
